Palestinian-American Documentary Filmmaker Monday Shaer, GAZA IS OUR HOME (2024)

Filmmaker Bio: Monear Shaer is a young, Florida-based, Palestinian-American documentarian whose life changed significantly this past year, since the events of October 7th and Israel’s subsequent US-backed invasion of Gaza. With over 150 relatives trapped in the Gaza Strip, his life as a videographer for a real estate firm changed dramatically with news of the devastating loss of 33 of his family members. An AI-generated slideshow of a 2021 visit to Gaza inspired what has become Shaer’s independently-made, feature-length documentary, a testament to the resilience and humanity of those affected by the ongoing crisis. Gaza is Our Home has screened at the International Brightlight Film Festival (California) and the Africa Human Rights Film Festival (in Kalahari, Reitfontein, South Africa, and Johannesburg, South Africa).
