AS Senate Recap – 11/27/24
This recap first appeared in the December 2 edition of the KCSB News Weekly Newsletter.
The AS Senate is a group of elected student representatives which serves as the policy-making body of Associated Students. Every Wednesday at 6:30 PM, the AS Senate convenes to pass bills and resolutions, hear reports from Boards, Committees, and Units (BCUs), and hold public forum.
KCSB’s Joyce Chi brings you the latest from the Senate.
- The Senate’s meeting last week was held by email vote. Senators approved the following:
- Omnibus Legal Adjustments Bill
- This codifies Legal Code changes requested by BCUs that pertain to those BCUs.
- Meeting minutes and allocations for campus organizations
- Two appointments for the Commission on Disability Equity (CODE)

- The Senate will hold another asynchronous meeting this week. This Week 10 meeting is a departure from tradition; the last meeting of the quarter is usually Week 9. Internal Vice President Açúcar Pinto said the purpose of the meeting would be to approve minutes, honoraria, and “time-sensitive legislation.”

- A Resolution Extending Financial Reporting Deadlines for Arts & Lectures, the University Center, and the Events Center
- This extends the deadline to comply with “financial reporting obligations” to the beginning of Winter Quarter (January 9).

- The following BCUs submitted reports: Student Commission on Racial Equity (SCORE), CODE, External Vice President for Student Affairs (EVPSA), Public and Mental Health Commission (PMHC), Commission on Student Wellbeing (COSWB), and Human Rights Board (HRB).
