KCSB-FM Airs UCSB Reads 2024, Weekly Readings From: YOUR BRAIN ON ART
Looking for a book suggestion?
Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us by Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross, is the 2024 UCSB Reads selection.
In its 18th year, the UC Santa Barbara Library and Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor initiate UCSB Reads to unite campus and Santa Barbara’s communities in reading a common book exploring compelling issues of our time.
Your Brain on Art journeys through the science of neuroaesthetics, an expanding field of research at the intersection of psychological aesthetics, human biology and evolution. The interdisciplinary book demonstrates how brains and bodies transform in profound ways through arts activities, resulting in better health and stronger communities.
Now through the spring, community members are invited to attend in a series of tie-in public programs, culminating on Wednesday May 8th, when authors Magsamen and Ross present a free lecture (with registration) at UCSB’s Campbell Hall, courtesy UCSB Arts & Lectures.
Starting February 1st, please also tune-in to “UCSB Reads on KCSB,” each Thursday at 530pm, for selections from each chapter of the book, as read by campus and community volunteers, plus interviews with artists and experts in the field of neuro arts.
